Itinerary

1- From the bus stop, go up the stairs to the town hall square. Take the alley that goes past the old stocks, until you reach the street Porte-de-Cers. Turn right onto la rue des Ramparts, follow the battlements (you will see two discoïdoles crosses) below the village until you get to the fountain. Go right and then left for 50m.

2- Take the path called la Cantarane, and then follow the valley under the crest of the hill for 1.5km. Turn right, cross the bridge on the right, go up the hill for 1km until you reach Montferrand (by continuing along the ramparts path, you will reach the orientation table, with a view over the Hers Valley and the aeronautical light-house. At the water tank not far from the abandoned church, go down carefully the paved path to your left, then take the road to the right followed by the rue de la Barbacane on the left. Cross the square to get onto a grassy path which go down to the cemetery and the field with the Gallo-roman remains.

3- Go straight along and cross the D813, follow the Canal to the left.

- Variant: you can also turn right and walk along the Canal to go to the point n°8 (4,2 km)

4- Cross the bridge and follow the canal to the left for 500m.

5- Go up the steep bank until you reach the road on the right. On the left, cross the railway track and then the A61. Continue straight along the tarmacked road. At the crossroads with the D80a turn left and continue for another 150m.

6- Get onto the dirt track on the left. At the crossroads, return onto the crest of the hill on the right.

7- Go off to the left, left again and then right. Go through the hamlet Brougues and then meet up with the canal again.

8- Follow the road which crosses the canal. Before the railway track, take the path to the right, turn left to go under the railway line to return to Avignonet.
